For sale is this lovely Van Nicholas Zephyr Titanium Bike. This is a fantastic opportunity to own a hand built road bicycle that rides so smoothly that having come from a background of race bikes I can only describe it as being like riding whilst sitting in an armchair, such is the level of comfort that the bike brings.

The way that the bike looks is really nice too and suggests that you're in a time when all bicycle frames were made out of steel - as were the gentlemen that rode them! Want to do an all day (or multi - day) ride - no problem, just jump on and start pedalling because titanium is just so comfortable. Perhaps Sportives are more your thing. If so - don't write off the Zephyr ; simply pump the tyres up to the max, load up on your carbohydrates and get ready for an adrenaline - filled ride! If you don't know about titanium frame s, what makes them so special is that titanium is virtually indestructible.

Titanium is lighter than steel (and doesn't corrode which is one reason that titanium frames can be polished and left unpainted), more comfortable than aluminium and significantly stronger than carbon. Where it really comes into its own however, is in the level of comfort that cannot be replicated by any other material used to make bike frames. This is not only a bike for riding flat out with your head down and your heart beating in your chest so hard that you can hear it. No, this is a bicycle for riding, unhurried, traversing long, winding country roads, waving at passers by and stopping frequently to take photos of the scenery around you or just to admire as you enjoy a slice of cake, sitting outside a village café.

That having been said if you decide to go for it, the Zephyr delivers, propelling you to the front of the group stealthily silent and incredibly quickly! Everything on the bike works precisely as it should. Gear changes are incredibly smooth as you'd expect of a Shimano 105 groupset. Changes are swift throughout the range and boy what a range this bike has. What this means is that you can be cruising along on a flat or a descent and (as long as your legs are strong enough) be travelling at over 30mph, or going up the steepest of hills, still spinning the pedals whilst all around you are almost coming to a halt as they grind away using gear ratios that are way to high for the conditions. The brakes are very efficient too, as would be expected of Shimano 105 components which is important as once you get going, you want to have the confidence that you can pull up pretty sharply when you need to. Speaking of the performance, this bike has Continental Grand Prix 5000 tyres in 25mm fitted.

These are a departure from the original specification however are light, tough and have one of the lowest rolling resistances in the market. Van Nicholas specified the Easton Aero wheels for the Zephyr however these have been upgraded to the bombproof Mavic Open Pro.

These are complemented by Hope hubs which just seem to want to spin forever - giving you lots of free speed. The measurement from the centre of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat tube is 62cm, this equates to Van Nicholas' effective frame size of 64cm and makes this bike particularly suitable for riders of around 6ft and above. The stand over height from the ground to the horizontal bar that connects the seat tube to the head tube is around 810mm which means that unless you are at least around 5ft tall, you would be unlikely to be able to ride the bike safely and in full control.

Please read my terms below carefully in order to avoid disappointment. As it would be a real pity if it got damaged in transit, the bike is being listed on a cash on collection basis. I do have a box though and if you're ok with a little reassembly, I can package it for collection by your courier. Thank you for your interest and good luck.
